BGC makes sale breakthrough to late founder’s stepson

WA building company BGC has had a breakthrough in its ongoing sale process, offloading its construction arm to company director Julian Ambrose for an undisclosed sum. The deal is expected to be finalised in the near-term and comes after the company formally put up for sale signs again in July this year, after two failed attempts to find a buyer since 2018. Mr Ambrose is a director at the company and stepson of the company’s late founder Len Buckeridge. Mr Ambrose also recently bought BGC’s precast business, it was revealed. BGC chief executive Daniel Cooper said the decision was “consistent with the company’s revised approach to its sale process”. “BGC Construction has an impressive track record, having delivered iconic WA landmarks such as Perth Arena, HBF (NIB) Stadium, and the National ANZAC Centre in Albany,” Mr Cooper said. “With Julian as the new owner, we anticipate exciting growth opportunities for the business, as well as continuity for existing employees, contractors and customers.” BGC will keep hunting for a buyer for the cement business. The storied company was founded by Mr Buckeridge and was for many years the State’s biggest home builder. It was also among WA’s largest private businesses.
