Kevin Rudd jets into Canberra one week after Australia’s Ambassador to the US was scolded by President Donald Trump

Australia’s ambassador to the US Kevin Rudd has been spotted in Parliament House in Canberra one week after he was publicly scolded by President Donald Trump. The US president claimed he did not know anything about Mr Rudd, who has served as Canberra’s envoy in Washington since March 2023, during Anthony Albanese’s long awaited meeting at the White House. Mr Trump was asked by a reporter if he had patched things up with Mr Rudd, who previously called Mr Trump “a village idiot” and “traitor to the West” before his diplomatic appointment. “I don’t really know anything about him,” Mr Trump said. “I think he said a long time ago something bad. “You know, when they say bad about me I don’t forget.” While the Prime Minister, who is in Malaysia for the ASEAN summit, has been fielding calls about Mr Rudd’s future as Australia’s ambassador to the US, Mr Rudd was in the nation’s capital to address the Superannuation Members Council. The Australian reported Mr Rudd talked about investment opportunities for Australian super funds in the USA. According to the newspaper, Mr Rudd told attendees the size of Australia’s super funds were being noticed in America and could be leveraged as a form of “economic diplomacy.” He also spoke about opportunities in the US that could see super funds receive higher returns. Mr Rudd did not make an appearance in the House of Representatives during question time and managed to avoid the cameras.
