Cult fashion brand COS shuts up only WA store on Claremont’s Bay View Terrace

Swedish fashion retailer COS will pack up its WA presence entirely after closing a Claremont storefront on Friday. Enthusiasts of the H&M subsidiary will now only be able to get their shopping fix of the low-key clothing store over on the east coast as the company confirmed it will shut its only brick-and-mortar store in the State. “We can confirm that the COS store in Claremont, Perth will close on 9 August,” a spokeswoman told to The West Australian. COS opened its first WA store on Claremont’s ritzy Bay View Terrace in August 2017 and there looks to be no immediate plans to replace it. The storefront has been cleared out almost entirely and a sign plastered on the window advising COS Claremont is “now closed”. Customers looking to return any items have been redirected to an email address. “COS is constantly evolving as a brand and it is natural in our business to evaluate locations and ensure our store portfolio is continually optimised in terms of number of stores, store space, rebuilds and relocations,” a spokeswoman said. “Our physical stores remain incredibly important to us and we will continue to invest in and open stores globally where we see great potential. “The closure of stores will always have an impact on our community, but our priority is to support our colleagues and find the best solution for them.” Mid-year sales in June boosted WA retail spending by 0.9 per cent on the previous month, though local shoppers are broadly more preoccupied with paying rising mortgage repayments than a weekend splurge. But banking on the deep pockets of typically wealthier Western suburbs residents, luxury Australian womenswear label Rebecca Vallance opened its first WA store in Claremont Quarter in June. New retail spending data will be released at the end of the month.
