Beyond the Saleyards - Price stability a feature for WA

Rob KellyCountryman

WA markets were stable again on the processor front at 580¢ for hoggets and mutton, 720¢ for crossbred lambs and 700¢ for Merinos.

Feedlot and restocker prices have been well supported at 310¢ and are being bid up to 325¢ on farm, depending on the stock type.

East coast markets were flat, with crossbred lambs remain around 800¢, 660¢ for hoggets and 600¢ for mutton.

The wool market closed the week lower with the EMI down 12 to 1306¢, with a stronger AUD doing some of the damage.

East coast goat markets have been strong over the last week. Not only have depots continued to hold around 400¢/kg liveweight, but processors are now bidding over 1000¢/kg carcase weight.

The WA market has remained flat at 720¢/kg carcass weight.

East coast cattle markets showed some signs of weakness last week, likely due to the fact that higher prices are not viable for processors and are doing little to bring in significantly more stock. Many east coast processors and feedlots lowered the bids in the range of 10-20¢.

In WA, the market remains well bid around 450¢ for feeder steers, despite some stock being transacted below this level. Export markets were active over the past week.

Northern feeder steers are bid from 415¢ and slaughter steers from 380¢. Bulls and heifers are generally around the 380-390¢ area, and cows are about 280¢.
