Sheep were herded back into trucks, and the rides were packed up after the 122nd annual Katanning Agricultural Show came to a close last Saturday evening.

Sunny weather and new attractions brought in crowds, outdoing last year’s attendance rates.

There was something for everyone to see and do at the Katanning Leisure Centre and Showgrounds ranging from health and wellbeing to classic agricultural showcases.

The wide variety of food stalls boosted patrons’ energy levels at the show which was packed with bumper cars to ride, and dog jumps and vintage tractor pulls to watch.

At 14 years of age, Emerson Smith has embraced the show’s competitions with enthusiasm.

He finished second overall in the working dog trials, runner-up in the dog jumps and took first prize in the medium-class wool competition.

“It’s good to get involved, it makes for a better show if everyone contributes, especially young people,” he said.

Speed shearing was another popular event to watch as the sun went down.

The show went out in style with an eye-catching fireworks display for children, and cover band Master Plan kept the adults entertained late in the evening.

Awards were also presented in the Pioneer Room with Gail Butterworth taking out the President’s Trophy for gaining the high aggregate number of points in all sections of the show.

Mrs Butterworth also took out the Katanning Shire Trophy and her children took out the Junior Trophy.

The family collectively took out the Terry Waldron Trophy for accumulating the most points.
