Pilbara pastoralist and chopper pilot a smooth appointment for Kalium Lakes

Well-known Pilbara pastoralist and businessman Brent Smoothy has been appointed as a non-executive director at the Australian Securities Exchange-listed sulphate of potash-focused company he co-founded. Kalium Lakes announced today that Mr Smoothy, who oversees a vast pastoral portfolio in WA’s north, would join the board alongside another incoming non-executive director, Mark Sawyer. Mr Smoothy, the owner of a Newman-based chopper charter business, co-founded Kalium with metallurgist and senior WA mining figure Brett Hazelden before the company hit the ASX boards in 2016. Kalium chairman Mal Randall welcomed Mr Smoothy and Mr Sawyer to the junior SOP explorer’s board. “They bring considerable experience and expertise, which will be invaluable as we look to successfully complete the development of the Beyondie SOP project,” he said. Kalium’s Rudolph van Niekerk will step down from his executive director position following Mr Smoothy and Mr Sawyer’s appointments, but will continue with the company in an “executive capacity”.
