As WA’s harvest gears up, growers across the State are able to take advantage of the latest information and advice on harvesting low crops.

The latest information, available on the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development website, comes as the Wheatbelt experiences varied crop performance with many areas recording positive yields, while others record below-average results.

The website, Season 2026, provides advice and information on soil erosion risk management and reducing the future risk of mice infestations.

Esperance regional intelligence manager Brendan Nicholas said the webpage had a “wealth of information” to assist growers in reducing harvest and profit losses.

“Several machinery modifications and alternative options are available to help growers get a quick, clean cut to pick up and clear low cut material,” he said.

“Many growers have found attaching rigid, black high-density polyethylene plastic to the finger tine reel to help feed cut material into the front of the header useful, as well as installing an air reel to blow short material clear of the knife, back into the table auger or belt.”

Careful harvesting and management over the summer period will be required for cropped paddocks or pastures that have received minimal or delayed rainfall and are at risk of soil erosion.

The site additionally provides advice on reducing future mice populations and damage posed to crops.

“Good on-farm hygiene is imperative to reduce the ongoing risk of mouse damage. This includes cleaning up spilt grain around sheds and silos, mouse-proofing grain storage and stock feed areas,” Mr Nicholas said.
