Broselinda Park dominates dairy

It was a repeat performance for Broselinda Park at the IGA Perth Royal Show, with the stud’s grand champion Holstein, Acero Shottle Ruby, chosen as this year’s dairy interbreed supreme senior champion.

The five-year-old cow also placed first in the Holstein most shapely udder competition for the second year in a row.

Judge Pat Nicholson, of Jugiong Jerseys in northern Victoria, said the soft, silky texture of the cow’s udder and its strong attachment and teat placement had made it stand out.

During the class judging, Mr Nicholson said the senior cow had a great angle of rib and a clean topline, making it a “worthy exhibit”.

Mr Nicholson awarded the reserve grand champion female to Broselinda Park Aftershock Madge, saying he really admired the intermediate champion Holstein female.

“She is silky and open and has a very good udder,” he said.

Mr Nicholson made special mention of junior champion Holstein heifer Logue Iota, exhibited by WA College of Agriculture, Harvey’s Logue Holstein stud.

“This young heifer will have a big future ahead of her,” he said.

Logue Iota was later singled out as the interbreed supreme junior heifer, with Mr Nicholson saying the 12-month-old had lovely balance and style.

Reserve junior champion Holstein female was awarded to the Ravenhill family’s Moonaralla stud for its entry, Moonaralla Mascalese 5951.

The Ravenhill family had not exhibited at the IGA Perth Royal Show for many years and it was greatly appreciated by all those involved that the stud had travelled from Albany to exhibit.

IllawarraKi-Orey stud put on another great display of Illawarra dairy cattle at this year’s IGA Perth Royal Show.

Mr Nicholson chose 27-month-old heifer Ki-Orey Pia as this year’s grand champion female, saying he admired the young exhibit’s complete milking form, looks and good conformation “underneath”.

Mr Nicholson chose nine-year-old Ki-Orey Last Hope, last year’s grand champion female, as senior champion cow, saying he admired the cow’s width, good capacity and nice udder.

Any Other Dairy BreedBroselinda Park won grand champion any other dairy breed with its 20-month-old Guernsey exhibit, Donny Brook Kinsman Asia Go.

Mr Nicholson said he had admired the heifer as soon as it had stepped into the ring. “She is balanced and moves well, with a clean top line,” he said.

Mr Nicholson said he chose the heifer as grand champion female because of its extra width and strength.

Broselinda Park also won intermediate champion female with its 25-month-old Guernsey exhibit, Donny Brook Dawson Corabecky. Mr Nicholson said the young heifer showed a nice cleanness in her top end.
