The historical indigenous song of Kings Park, Yallorr Spider, welcomed 220 guests to country at Fraser’s Restaurant, for last Thursday’s century celebrations for leading beef processor and brand, Harvey Beef.
Ballardong–Whadjuk traditional owner Barry McGuire inspired the large crowd “back to the beginning of time” with his vocal and boomerang-tapping tune — a lyrical dream story when ancient people, including his relations, gathered above the Swan River within the safety of a web. WA Agriculture Minister Alannah MacTiernan said it was notable that Harvey Beef, established in 1919, sustained 100 years and carried through the Great Depression and many challenges.
“We owe much praise to the original founders, Ernest and Mary Green, and the relatively new owners, the Forrest family — for their massive investment,” she said.
Minderoo Group co–founder and Harvey Beef owner Nicola Forrest said the newest acquisition, Koojan near Moora, was earmarked to create a worldwide leading cattle-finishing facility, with the assistance of renowned US cattle expert Professor Temple Grandin. “Temple does great work in animal husbandry and we want to create a good life for our cattle,” she said.
Harvest Road chief executive Greg Harvey said Koojan was on track for 2020 to deliver the most efficient beef supply chain in Australia.
