Leading figures from across the State’s agricultural industry have launched a platform to promote the live export trade, dubbed The Sheep Collective.

Unveiled today, the website is a collaboration effort from exporters, industry bodies and producers to provide clarity surrounding the live sheep sector throughout the entire supply chain.

Woodanilling sheep producer Bindi Murray said it was a major step towards ensuring the public was better informed on the live sheep trade.

“Farmers spend their entire lives dedicated to breeding and raising happy and contented animals, having the Australian community better understand this is really the cornerstone of The Sheep Collective initiative,” she said.

Livestock and Rural Transport Association president Andy Jacob echoed Mrs Murray and said ensuring animal welfare was critical.

“Livestock transport drivers often come from a farming background so have a lifetime of experience handling and looking after animals,” he said.

“You need to be a stockman first and a truck driver second, that’s what is important to us.

“Animal welfare is paramount.”
