Agritechnica 2019

The Fendt 942 Vario has taken out the prestigious Tractor of the Year 2020 award at the world’s biggest trade fair for agricultural machinery.

The Vario picked up two prizes at the Agritechnica Machine of the Year 2020 awards ceremony on November 12.

The event was held during the week-long Agritechnica trade fair, which featured 2819 exhibitors from 53 countries, attracting 450,000 visitors.

It was picked for Tractor of the Year from a shortlist of five: Case IH — Magnum 380 CVX Drive, Claas — Axion 960 Terra Trac, Fendt — 942 Vario, McCormick — X7.624 VT Drive, and Valtra — N 154e Versu.

Fendt won both the audience choice award, and machine of the year in the high-horsepower tractor category for its new Fendt 900 Vario.

The specialist editors on the judging panel were impressed with the technical innovations and versatility of the Fendt 900 Vario.

Strong in performance yet low in fuel consumption, Fendt has touted the machine for setting new standards in its power class.

It has an all-new MAN six-cylinder engine and VarioDrive powertrain for optimum traction.

With its intelligent torque distribution, the Fendt 900 Vario delivers maximum power even on turns.

The design of the machine also swayed the decision in favour of the Fendt 900 Vario in the high-horsepower tractor category.

The Fendt 900 Vario was very well received by the general public, hence claiming the audience choice award.

Most of the 30,000 or so participants voted online for the Fendt 900 Vario.

Fendt marketing vice president Roland Schmidt, Peter-AGCO/Fendt management board chairman Josef Paffen, Fendt sales director Christian Erkens, and Fendt distribution mangager vice president Christoph Gröblinghoff were delighted with the double victory.

AGCO/Fendt management board chairman Peter-Josef Paffen said the award was a vote of confidence.

“The audience choice award is particularly important to me, because farmers vote for us and rate our performance as a whole, not just for one machine,” Mr Paffen said.

“That’s why the audience choice award is more valuable to me than a gold medal.”

A total of 53 machines from 36 manufacturers were nominated for the title of machine of the year 2020 across 16 categories.

Twenty specialist editors from 11 countries awarded the prizes in the 15 different machine categories.
