Hair-loss heroes cut it for charity

It was a sight to behold at the Elders Albany branch on the last weekend in July.

Staff members waxed their legs and others dyed their hair pink in front of about 70 members of the public for a fundraiser in support of the McGrath Foundation.

Exclaiming that it wasn't as painless and easy as it looked, hairy men who had been preparing for the day for four weeks, had their legs waxed in return for donations from the public.

If audience members were particularly keen on inflicting waxing pain on volunteers, they could buy wax strips and do it themselves - exactly what Elders sales support officer Melissa Halleen did to sales representative Neill Liddle.

Braver Elders staff members volunteered to have another area of their bodies waxed.

Regional manager Andrew Orr had his back waxed for donations.

The McGrath foundation was established to raise awareness in young women about breast cancer and initiated the placement of specialised breast care nurses in communities across Australia.

Former Test cricketer Glenn McGrath's ambassadorship for Elders ended after a five-year partnership but Elders has maintained its long support for the McGrath Foundation.

Along with the efforts of the Elders Albany branch, every day in July, Elders donated $1000 to the charity foundation.

Elders Albany branch raised more than $5000 for the foundation through the July weekend fundraising event.
