Winning displays catch eye at Mingenew

A coffee van and a football star were major drawcards at two of the seven sites which took out exhibitor awards at the McIntosh & Son Mingenew Midwest Expo last Wednesday and Thursday.

The exhibitor awards recognise the most impressive site displays at the expo and were judged by Morawa Agricultural Society members.

In presenting the awards on the second day of the expo, Ms Cosgrove said it was important to recognise the effort put in by stallholders.

“They are always looking for excellent visual displays engaging people as they walk past,” she said.

“There were some repeat winners — AFGRI and Bankwest have won two years in a row.

“The ones that won, had good visual appeal and they got people to walk in.”

Bankwest’s display, which included balloons, was boosted by the appearance of retired West Coast Eagle midfielder Matt Priddis on the first day of the expo.

Bankwest business development executive for rural and regional banking in WA Brendon Kay said the team was delighted to have received the award.

“The Mingenew Midwest Expo is always a great event but this year we had the added pull of ex-West Coast Eagles star Matt Priddis hosting handball competitions and meeting our valued customers at our Bankwest pavilion,” he said.

It was a team effort for the family interest stall winner Bianca Shepley, who manned the stall inside the family interest tent, next to the main stage. She sold wares from her business Botanical Den, and Tyson and Co, as well as items designed by other locals.
