WA Symphony Orchestra returns to the Perth Concert Hall stage from Friday, June 5 with a 7.30pm online series dubbed Ensemble Editions.

The concerts bring WASO musicians home after COVID-19 protocols closed the venue in March, with chamber music ensembles made up of the orchestra’s instrumental sections who have been rehearsing in small groups.

First up this Friday is the horn section with the mellow power of Hans Richter’s Wagneriana, a medley of Richard Wagner opera themes, rich and majestic.

That is followed by the string section and Felix Mendelssohn’s Octet, a lush Romantic work brimming with warmth and whimsy.

“The Ensemble Editions is our new series of online concerts that feature our own WASO musicians,” artistic planning manager Alan Tyrrell said.

“The music and the different ensembles were all selected from submissions from our musicians of the pieces that they most wanted to play.

“It’s great that we’re able to feature so many of our talented musicians and it’s a wonderful example of people coming together to create something special in difficult circumstances while our regular concerts are on hold due to COVID-19.”

Performances are scheduled for Fridays at 7.30pm through to July 24, with the program for each to be announced on the Saturday beforehand.

Concerts are free, with the opportunity to make a tax deductible donations - a valuable resource in the absence of ticket revenue. Visit https://www.waso.com.au/concerts-tickets/ensemble-editions/concerts
