Victoria and David Beckham reportedly secretly battled COVID-19 after partying in Los Angeles following the launch of the soccer star’s new football club in March.

The until now under wraps diagnosis was “an absolute nightmare scenario”, according to a friend of the country-hopping celebrity couple who feared they may be super-spreaders of the disease.

“They attended a couple of swanky networking events as David had promotional duties, and were shaking hands and kissing fans and various club dignitaries,” the friend revealed to The Sun.

“They then flew back to London, and were whisked straight to their Cotswolds mansion.”

On their return, David was first to feel sick, but Victoria quickly followed, developing a sore throat and high temperature.

A number of their staff, including drivers, bodyguards and assistants, also developed symptoms, prompting the family to quarantine themselves for two weeks.

“(Victoria) was utterly petrified they might be super-spreaders, and did all she could to minimise all future risk,” the friend sad.

"Not only was she poorly in bed, she was also completely panicked. It was a rough few weeks.”

The now-recovered couple spent the English summer holed up in their country mansion before jetting to Greece and Italy after being given the all clear.

It was an eventful summer for the Beckham family who not only celebrated Brooklyn’s birthday but his apparent secret marriage to Nicola Peltz just weeks after their engagement.

The couple announced their engagement in July but sparked wedding rumours they had already tied the knot, with Beckham seen sporting a gold band on his wedding finger in pictures on social media.

The Beckhams join a growing list of celebrities to fall victim to the virus that has swept the world.

Last week, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson revealed his whole family had contracted the virus in video posted to social media. He described the experience as “a real kick in the guts” and one of the most challenging and difficult things we’ve ever had to endure as a family”.

Robert Pattinson had also reportedly fallen victim, halting production of the highly-anticipated film The Batman.
