Singer Marc Anthony has spoken out for the first time amid claims he played a role in the long-running Beckham family feud and allegations he helped ‘humiliate’ Brooklyn Beckham at his wedding to Nicola Peltz.

The 57-year-old Latin music star was at the centre of reported drama during the couple’s lavish wedding reception, where he is said to have invited Victoria Beckham onto the dancefloor for a special moment, rather than the bride Nicola.

According to reports, Marc allegedly called the mother of the groom “the most beautiful woman in the room”, a comment said to have left Nicola in tears.

Now, Marc has addressed the controversy in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I have nothing to say about what’s happening with the family. They’re a wonderful, wonderful family. I’ve known them since before the kids were born. I’m godfather to Cruz,” he said.

“I’m really close to the family. But I have nothing to say about what happened there. It’s extremely unfortunate how it’s playing out, but is hardly the truth.”

Brooklyn Beckham accused his mother of “hijacking” the moment and claimed she danced “inappropriately”, leaving him “embarrassed”.

“In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone,” he said.

“I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”

The allegations were laid out in a six-page Instagram statement and quickly sparked a wave of memes mocking both Victoria Beckham and Marc Anthony online.

Marc, a four-time Grammy winner and former partner of Jennifer Lopez, had reportedly offered to perform at the wedding as a gift to the couple.

He has been close friends with the Beckham family for years, having met David Beckham when he played for Real Madrid in 2005. David is godfather to Marc’s son, Marquis and served as best man at Marc’s wedding to Nadia Ferreira in January 2023. David also attended Marc’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in Los Angeles the following month.

Despite the long-standing friendship, Marc’s gesture at Brooklyn’s wedding reportedly caused tension.

A source told People, “Before the song began, Marc Anthony asked Brooklyn to come to the stage, and then announced, ‘The most beautiful woman in the room tonight, come on up… Victoria Beckham!’”

Another source claimed the reaction was immediate and stunned. “You could hear a pin drop,” they said.

Brooklyn later alleged in his statement, “She (Victoria) danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”

According to People, guests watched as Nicola ran from the room in tears, followed by members of her family.

However, friends of Victoria Beckham disputed the claims, saying the newlyweds had already shared their first dance to Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love earlier in the day, long before Victoria danced with her son.

All 500 wedding guests were required to hand in their phones and were given flip devices capable only of taking photos.

Only one video of the controversial dance is believed to exist, filmed by the official videographer.

An insider said, “That was handed over to the couple of days after the ceremony. It’s their call whether they release it.”

It has since emerged the video company was required to delete its copy after six months, leaving Brooklyn and Nicola as the only people in possession of the footage.
