The internet once again has the world a little confused, but this time, there is actually a rather quality explanation to the latest viral craze.

If you open TikTok, Instagram or Facebook this week, you will likely see multiple reels and videos with audio of people lip syncing the phrase “I beez in the trap, be-beez in the trap”.

Unlike the popular phrase 6-7, a phrase with little to no meaning that threatened to take over the world like a contagion, “beez in the trap” has an explanation.

For anyone worried, the song is not warning about bees that are trapped anywhere, but there is meaning behind it.

Beez in the Trap is a song by Nicki Minaj and 2 Chainz from 2012.

Released in May, 2012, the song war peaked at No. 48 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Google search data shows interested in the track peaked in April 2012, before descending into a flat line from 2013. However, in October 2025, interest started to rocket back up.

That boost is due to a mashup by popular TikTok creator DJ Auxlord.

DJ Auxlord on TikTok has just over 24,000 followers, but their video featuring a mashup of What’s Up by 4 Non Blondes as the chorus from Minaj’s Beez in the Trap track has over 6.2 million views.

Using the original DJ Auxlord audio online, other TikTok users have created 1.2 million videos, making the trend certified viral.

Online, the audio is generally performed by two people, with one person singing the lyrics from What’s Up before a second person jumps in with Minaj’s lyrics.

The video is usually filmed by a person circling those singing the lyrics and dancing.

Khloe Kardashian, Jenifer Lopez, Jimmy Fallon and PinkPantheress are among the megastar names jumping on the trend.

However, like with all trends, as they grow more popular and permeate the cultural landscape, people want to know what it means.

What does Beez in the Trap mean?

When the song was originally released by Minaj and 2 Chainz, before it was mashed up into an arguably better banger, the US rapper explained the meaning of Beez in the Trap while appearing on The Graham Norton Show.

Minaj defined Beez as “It means that, you know, it’s saying ‘I am always’. That’s our slang way of saying you know, we be like, ‘I’m beez, doing such and such’.

“So it is really, ‘I’m always in the trap’,” Minaj explained.

“Now the trap, ladies and gentleman, relates to anywhere you get your money.”

From Minaj’s explanation, a simple way to put it is “beez” means a person and a trap is their work where they are busy making money.
