Australian Idol 2026 winner: Kesha from Jindabyne takes home dream $100,000 prize money to kick start career

Kesha Neve, the singing skier from Jindabyne in New South Wales, has won the hearts of the nation after being crowned the 2026 Australian Idol in a live grand finale on Tuesday night.

It was an Origin-style showdown between the 21-year-old and Queensland’s 18-year-old Harlan Goode, each battled it out with a supersized version of their original audition song.

Kesha sang Die With A Smile by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars and was praised by judge Amy Shark as the “most talented, coolest chick I’ve seen on Idol so far”.

Ultimately, it was Kesha who won the most votes from the Aussie public and took home $100,000 in prize money and an exclusive recording package with Hive Sound Studios to create new music.

She has also become the first female winner of Idol in 19 years, since Natalie Gauci won season five in 2007.

After the news broke across the nation, Kesha said she was still in shock but was “incredibly grateful” for her experience on Idol.

“I’m so lucky for this opportunity. I never thought it would be me,” she said in an emotional interview after the win.

“You always envision it, but you never actually think it’s going to happen, so I just feel like the luckiest person on Earth.”

To the fans who voted for her, Kesha had the “biggest heartfelt thank you” for them.

“It means so much to me, my friends and family. I hope I can repay them with my music and shows,” she said.

With that being said, the determined rising star said she plans to jump straight into the studio to start recording music.

“I just want to get into the studio. I want to get into writing songs. I want to be playing shows. I want to be on the road or on a flight to my next gig,” she said.

Kesha said one of the most special moments she experienced on Idol was performing alongside her dad — a musician who inspires her the most.

“He’s not a world-renowned artist, but he is the most genuine, beautiful artist I’ve ever met in my life, and he’s gotten me to where I am today and taught me how to be humble and gracious and the love of music and how it can change your life.”

Kesha also won the opportunity to attend a songwriting camp with Sony Music Publishing, marketing and social media support from The Annex, VIP tickets to the ARIA Awards and TV WEEK Logie Awards.

Idol’s top three was reduced to two after Kalani, 23, the landscaper from the central coast of New South Wales was eliminated.

Amy Shark got the audience hyped with a performance of her new song The Biggest Dick from her forthcoming album Soft Pop set for release on July 31.
