We may not be able to see the world’s best athletes compete against each other at the Olympics this year, but Channel Seven has another offering to satisfy our competitive sides- a cooking contest that pits the world’s best cuisines against each other.

Plate of Origin will see 10 teams of two compete and cook up some of the best meals from ten different countries.

The countries represented in the competition are Italy, India, Lebanon, Vietnam, France, Greece, Venezuela, China, Cameroon and Australia.

While the series was initially slated to run around the time of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which have now been delayed, the cooking show will go ahead and hit our screens soon.

The first trailer for the series has now been released and offers a glimpse of contestants from diverse cultural backgrounds who will battle it out to see which of their chosen cuisines makes the cut.

While the promo doesn’t show the judges, it is voiced by long-time My Kitchen Rules judge Manu Fieldel.

In a coup for Seven, it was previously announced the series would also be hosted by former Masterchef judges Matt Preston and Gary Mehigan.

The teams have already tried to assert their culinary dominance, with statements in the trailer from “Italian food is always about fresh produce on the plate”, “Chinese cuisine is like an explosion of flavours”, “You can’t go past the spices of India” and “We have an opportunity to showcase Vietnamese food at another level.”

But, perhaps the most interesting cuisine could be from Team Australia, who say the country is best known for taking inspiration and mixing “the best of the world’s flavours”.

Food from all corners of the globe will compete to see which country has the best food on the planet.

Plate of Origin will air on Seven.
