Former Home and Away star Bonnie Sveen has revealed her heartbreaking experience trying to make it big in LA.

The actress took to Instagram to share her disappointing experience after moving to Hollywood in an effort to crack the US market.

“Eight years ago I was back from five months overseas, with a hefty debt and a bruised ego. My experience in LA was professionally not as I’d hoped,” Sveen wrote.

“[I was] feeling lost but also more certain of who I was, recovering from insecurities and a weakened body image.”

Though she describes a largely negative experience, the actress did have some success, appearing in the US TV show Spartacus: Vengence.

While Sveen may not have landed her dream gig, or been able to earn more than she did during her guest appearance as Hayley Doven in Home and Away, she has been welcomed back into the fold since her return to Australia.

Sveen played two characters on Seven’s long running soap, Home and Away. First Hayley Doven for two episodes in 2010 and then Ricky Sharpe in 2013. It was the latter performance that scored her a Logie Award.

“I found it near impossible to absorb all the blessings and privilege that came with that era,” she wrote in her Instagram post.

“I think my protective shell made me a bit emotionally constipated already, and acting was my God-send release!

“To pay debts, be busy with filming commitments (what I love), improve my skill set and slowly step into fame... it was a fun, profound and transformational time.

“I loved getting up everyday, the purpose and anticipation driving me forward to set each morning. I was still a girl, in so many ways and it was the perfect rite of passage to show myself and others who I was, to live the values I said I believed in.”

Sveen also met her partner Nathan Gooley on the Seven show and the pair now share twin daughters Myrtle and Emerald, who were born in 2018. The couple now call Tasmania home.

The actress also appeared on the Home and Away spin off, Home and Away: an Eye for an Eye which premiered on streaming service Presto, and alongside Jessica Mauboy in the Seven show Secret Daughter.
