Former Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis allegedly caught driving while disqualified, car reportedly impounded

Former Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis has reportedly had his car impounded after he was allegedly caught driving disqualified.

Police allege a 36-year-old Medindie man was seen driving a vehicle with two children just after 4pm on Thursday.

“A man has been reported for driving while disqualified after being apprehended by police late yesterday,” a police spokesman said.

“The man’s vehicle has been impounded by police for 28 days and he will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.”

Mr Dennis had his driver’s licence suspended for five years and was placed on a two-year good behaviour following an incident that resulted in the death of his wife, Melissa Hoskins, in December 2023.

Ms Hoskins was killed after she launched herself on the bonnet of a car Dennis was driving near their Adelaide home.

She tripped and was dragged underneath the car sustaining critical injuries during the incident and later died in hospital.

A court found Mr Dennis had disregarded his wife’s safety he was found not responsible for her death, after he pleaded guilty to an aggravated charge of creating likelihood of harm relating to the tragedy.

The professional cyclist competed in three Olympic Games and has won silver and bronze medals.

He won gold in a team pursuit event and individual time trials at the World Championships.

He also won a time trial stage in the Tour de France.
