2022 Land Rover Defender V8 revealed with supercharged 5.0-litre petrol engine

The new Land Rover Defender has received a serious boost in power, with a new V8 petrol engine added to an expanded Australian line-up in July.

Both the 90 and 110 variants get the new unit, a supercharged 5.0-litre with 386kW and 625Nm of torque.

In the 90, it will cover 0-100km/h in 5.2 seconds and hit a top speed of 240km/h.

The V8 models get a unique suspension and transmission tuning, including bespoke spring and damper rates and a new electronic active rear differential for better body control.

They also get a Dynamic driving mode.

A new XS Edition also joins the line-up, positioned above the SE models.

Externally, the XS gets body-coloured lower cladding and lower wheel arches and 20-inch, contrast diamond-turned alloy wheels finished in Satin Grey, while inside there are 12-way, heated and electric memory seats finished in Grained Leather and illuminated metal treadplates.

Also standard is electronic air suspension, adaptive dynamics, configurable Terrain Response, Matrix LED headlights with signature DRLs, Clearsight rear view mirror and a 10-speaker meridian sound system.

The XS Edition is available exclusively with the powerful P400 petrol powertrain.
