With its spacious feel and urban chic trimmings, Webb & Brown-Neaves’ The Planar successfully shows homes on narrow lots can still pack a punch.

Spanning over 314sqm with 10m of frontage, this display home situated in Melville includes four bedrooms and two bathrooms, with a master suite that features a timber-lined ceiling and a sophisticated ensuite with a curved shower.

Luxurious in feel, the bathroom is especially noteworthy due to its dark-toned and moody tiled wall punctuated by two silky honey wood-framed mirrors sitting atop a long and cupboard-rich floating vanity.

Though also boasting a dark, rustic grey floor, the space manages to achieve a bright, uncluttered and open atmosphere via its clever and consistent wash of white paired with volume-adding high ceilings.

A combined scullery and laundry is accessible via an outdoor service zone and the kitchen, which boasts a contemporary design peppered with fully integrated appliances and a conversation island bench with a cantilever breakfast nook.

Similarly to the bathroom, the kitchen has a charcoal feature wall, adding to the mood of the space without compromising the spacious feel.

This sense of openness is continued throughout the open-plan dining and living room, throughout which flows the same rustic, grey tiled floor.

With multiple black industrial lights joined by obsidian piping hanging overhead, the space is linked effortlessly through clear sliding doors to a charming and comfortable outdoor living space and nearby garage.

Technology is facilitated throughout the house to add an extra layer of convenience when it comes to lighting, air-conditioning, access, security and entertainment, which can be controlled easily and remotely.

Speaking on the impressive elements of the stylish home, Webb & Brown-Neaves Innovation and New Product Designer Joseph Calasara said the central courtyard was among the home’s most noteworthy features.

“Narrow blocks generally create long passages and corridors before opening to the living zones, but The Planar has a dramatic entry with a canopy of trees over the open passages and is welcomed by the serene sounds of water through the central courtyard,” he said.

“This courtyard allows for a breathing space in the middle of the house.

“It’s a great area for lounging and to provide access to natural lighting, cross ventilation and visual connection from the main areas of the house.”

Mr Calasara said the display home was designed with entertaining in mind and would appeal to downsizers, as well as married and professional couples who would have extra space for guests or to work from home.

While heavily focused on functionality, The Planar boasts gorgeous urban industrial themes brought to life by a grey and white colour scheme and sharp, charcoal elements.

This is particularly emphasised in the home’s facade; an eye-catching mix of light cement grey and deep woody brown, punctuated by dark black strips and clever, asymmetrical windows.

The flat roof also adds another contemporary element to the home’s kerbside appeal, along with intricate material detailing.

Mr Calasara said the house had been constructed with a simple, modern approach that would stand the test of time.

“The Planar is another alternative design solution to a narrow property, and a modernist revival focusing on simple planes,” he said.

“It provides homage to the elegant proportions of modernism and incorporates elements of biophilic design to create a perfect family oasis and to capture the future of homes.”

The Planar is open for viewing Saturdays and Sundays from 12-5pm and Wednesdays from 2-5pm.
