Kate Bush

The fourth season of Netflix smash Stranger Things may have reached its epic conclusion this week, but it has left a lasting legacy: introducing a new generation to Kate Bush. The incredible English singer-songwriter’s 1985 song Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) featured prominently in the show, creating a wave that has seen it rocket to the top of the charts in Australia and the UK, where it dethroned Harry Styles. Bush (who wrote, produced and owns the rights to the song, so is enjoying a well-deserved windfall) issued a rare statement to say she is “really moved by it all”. If you haven’t already, do your ears a favour and listen to the whole album, Hounds of Love (then work your way through Bush’s entire back catalogue)

NAIDOC Week Celebrations

NAIDOC Week celebrations will kick off in Perth today (Sunday July 3) with the opening ceremony at Wellington Square from 1pm to 5pm, with performances by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and performers. If you aren’t located near the city, Yanchep National Park will also be hosting celebrations from 11am to 2pm with an Aboriginal cultural tour, bush tucker tasting and sand art. At Yarns with Ron Bradfield, a free event at the City of Vincent library on Thursday, Bradfield will lead a conversation on how we can come together as a nation, despite the difficult times we have faced in the past and the challenges of the present. You can also get involved by tuning in to National Indigenous Television (NITV) and supporting an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander-owned business including Gun Gurra, Kirrikin, Gammin Threads and Haus of Dizzy. More events and information on Perth’s NAIDOC Week celebrations can be found at @NaidocWeek on Instagram and its website.
