Sam Kerr: Matildas superstar to wed Kristie Mewis in private WA ceremony on New Year’s Eve
It was a Happy New Year and a Happily Ever After for Matildas star Sam Kerr as she tied the knot with US soccer player Kristie Mewis in her home town of Perth on Wednesday night.
Wearing a dapper black tuxedo and her hair in her signature low pony-tail, Sam Kerr left the Crown Towers around 4.30pm on Wednesday in a mini bus surrounded by her family.
As she left the Crown Towers Ms Kerr carried a baby bottle in her hand for her seven-month old son Jagger who was carried in the arms of proud grandmother Roxanne Kerr.
Although mum looked suave, Jagger stole the show in a white-collared shirt, black slacks and socks.
Ms Kerr, Jagger and Roxanne Kerr were joined in the mini van by her father Roger Kerr, brother Daniel and her nieces.
A second mini van took more of the Kerr family who were all dressed in shimmering shades of black for the evening wedding ceremony.
Earlier, Mewis took to Instagram on the morning of her big day, sharing a photo of the beloved Australian striker sipping from a mug to her 490,000 followers.
The picture was simply captioned with three emojis.
An estimated 120 guests were expected to attend the nuptials, with Matildas teammates Mackenzie Arnold and Alanna Kennedy already sharing images of Perth beaches in the lead-up to the ceremony.
Mewis gave eager fans a sneak preview of the wedding festivities on Tuesday, sharing a carousel post on Instagram of her and Kerr in white — accompanied with the caption “Tomorrow”.
Fans were quick to flood the comments of Mewis’ post, expressing their excitement for “the royal wedding”.
“Your wedding will be so special,” one commenter wrote.
Another said: “Can’t believe it’s nearly royal wedding day!”
“To me, this is the wedding of the century,” another soccer fan wrote.
The couple have been together since 2021, with the duo announcing their engagement in late 2023.
Mewis previously gave fans a small glimpse into the highly-awaited nuptials on her podcast Mewis Squared, revealing teammates from both the Matildas and the United States national team would be in attendance.
“Talking to 120 people in one night is a lot — I’m stressing about not being able to give enough time to everyone,” she said.
The couple’s son Jagger Mewis-Kerr, who was born in May, will also play a special role at the wedding.
“(Jagger) is a little too young to have a role, but Sam is going to walk with him down the aisle which is very, very sweet,” she said
“That is going to be gut wrenching for me, I will sob when that happens.
“He is probably going to be wearing a little matching outfit with her, it’s going to be absolutely adorable.”
She also revealed the ceremony would not start until later in the evening, saying her and Kerr “want to celebrate New Year’s Eve with everyone”.
The couple’s honeymoon plans may be delayed however, with Kerr set to take the pitch with Chelsea on January 11.
