One of the Great Southern’s most iconic New Year’s Eve celebrations will not go ahead this year, with rising costs and increasing responsibilities forcing the organisers to announce its cancellation.

For the past 22 years, the Bremer Bay Resort has hosted one of WA’s biggest New Year’s Eve parties for young people but the much-loved live music event will now not be going ahead.

The Bremer Bay Resort said in a social media post on Tuesday the decision to stop the event was a hard one.

“This has not been an easy choice,” they said.

“As the event has grown, so have the costs and responsibilities involved.

“The increasing expense of security, live entertainment, compliance and risk management means we can no longer deliver the event to the standard of safety and quality that our guests and team deserve.

The pub will still be welcoming guests, serving food and drinks and operating as per normal over the New Year period, just without large scale event.

The resort thanked all the volunteers and guests who have supported the event over the years.

“To everyone who has danced, celebrated, worked, volunteered and made memories with us over the past 22 years — thank you,” they said.

“Your support has made this event something truly special and we are incredibly proud of the legacy it has created.

“We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you to the resort over the summer.”
