The Albany Eightball Association welcomed pool royalty on October 10 when Mick ‘The Machine’ Hill came to the Stirling Club to provide group coaching and play exhibition matches.

Englishman Hill has won 16 world eight-ball titles and is recognised as one of the most successful players of all time.

It was his second visit to Albany where he was able to meet up with long-term friend and fellow world-class eight-baller Andy Barnett.

Barnett had just returned from the 2025 World Eightball Pool Championships in Ireland, where he helped Australia reach the semifinals.

Hill’s visit opened with group coaching, providing insights into his 30 years at the top and helping local players with their game.

He then played exhibition frames with Albany members with four members managing to beat the visiting expert. There was then a Q&A session and plenty of trick shots.

Barnett was one of those who managed to get a frame over the line against his good mate.

Albany Eightball Association president Damien Benson said Hill’s visit had been a super experience.

“It was a fantastic evening showcasing the connections across the world of this global sport,” he said.

“It’s great to see Albany on the map for its contribution towards the continuing growth of the sport.”
