The stars of the 24th annual Albany Show & Shine will provide the horsepower for a huge September long weekend in Albany.

Droves of car enthusiasts from across the region will be drawn to the congregation of valuable vehicles, from historic makes to modern-day street machines.

The two-day event, hosted by the Great Southern Street Machine Association, will start on Saturday with the high-octane Go To Whoa and Dyno Shootout.

The Supercruise Poker Run will take the cars on a tour around Albany, giving the public another chance to gawk at the array of precious metal.

On Sunday, the Albany Agricultural Society pavilions will house a display of cars and motorcycles, with category awards up for grabs and a trophy for the Best of Show.

Last year’s Best of Show went to Ian Latta for his 1953 Morris Minor, who will be back this year to defend his crown.

GSSMA spokeswoman Christine Sargent said they would have cars dating back as far as 1912.

The association held one of Albany’s first events after the onset of COVID-19 restrictions — the Weekend of Speed in June — which gave them hope that the Show & Shine would go ahead this year.

“It is getting bigger and bigger each year and we have a lot of people come from out of town,” she said. “We have got a Chevy coupe coming from Ravensthorpe, your burnout cars, street drag cars, the older Australian cars.

“But it isn’t just for car people.”

Sunday’s festivities will also feature markets, a petting zoo, live music, a silent auction and rocker cover racing. Visit gssma.com.au.
