As Denmark’s tourism sector starts to recover from the COVID-19 crisis, a tourist hotspot will reopen to the public to provide a welcome shot in the arm.

Access to Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks has been closed to the public since February during upgrades to the William Bay National Park, with the scenic spots scheduled to open before the end of July after a major revamp.

With visitor numbers to the park climbing each year, the WA Government-funded overhaul will boost accessibility while protecting the natural environment.

Stages one and two of the upgrades will be completed by the end of July, including road sealing, the creation of additional parking bays, more paths and gathering areas, and new toilet facilities.

Those upgrades were originally scheduled for completion by June.

A Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions spokesman said some carparks had already been sealed, with remaining roads to be finished in the coming weeks.

“There have been minor delays in receiving essential materials over the past two months due to the COVID-19 situation,” he said.

“Volunteers from the William Bay National Park Association will be involved in revegetation and rehabilitation works once site works are complete.”

The park will remain open for the next stage of the project, set to start in the next financial year.

“Planning has begun for stage three, which will focus on upgrading pedestrian access to Greens Pool and Elephant Rocks including paths, boardwalks, interpretive signs and beach access,” he said.
