Great Southern Football League coaches noticing Magpies’ Jayden Woods hot start to 2021 season

Denmark-Walpole star Jayden Woods’ hot start to the 2021 Great Southern Football League has not gone unnoticed, taking an early lead in the coaches’ player of the year award.

Four players have scored a perfect 10 votes in the first two rounds of this season to sit behind Woods.

After two rounds, Woods leads the award with 14 votes while perfect-10 vote games from Railways captain Bodhi Stubber, Albany midfielder Cameron Jones and his teammate William Morris, along with Royals forward Rivah Bocian, have them close behind.

Magpies skipper Alec Haskins also sits in second on 10 votes after polling in both rounds.

In the opening round, Woods received five votes before polling nine in the Magpies’ first win of the season on Saturday with a stack of possessions and two goals.

At the end of each home and away match, league coaches provide their votes in a 5-4-3-2-1 system. Voting is done considering players from both teams, and five votes is the maximum a player can receive from each coach.

The award is run by the Albany Advertiser, and last year Magpies big man Shayne Zanetti took the top honour with 52 votes, edging out North Albany young gun Talon Delacey by two votes.
