The first anniversary of Midds Reef is a timely reminder of what communities can achieve when persistence, partnership and local vision come together.

For more than 30 years, Albany’s surfing community kept faith with the idea of creating a quality, accessible wave close to town.

Today, Midds Reef stands as a much-loved local asset and a source of pride for surfers, families and the wider community.

Its success also highlights the value of all levels of government backing well-supported community initiatives.

The City of Albany deserves recognition for its leadership, professionalism, and commitment to seeing the project through.

Most importantly, Midds Reef has created a welcoming hub where surfers of all ages and abilities can share the water, connect with each other, and enjoy one of Albany’s special coastal places.

Congratulations to everyone who helped bring Midds Reef to life.

Its first anniversary is not only worth celebrating — it is proof that passion, persistence and community support can deliver lasting public benefit.
