Pascoe trio chasing Australian glory in star-studded National Super Sedan Title at Albany’s Attwell Park

This weekend’s National Super Sedan Title in Albany will be a historic one for Queensland trio Matt, Zac and Brad Pascoe. Father Matt has been racing alongside his two sons Zac and Brad for a little more than a year but they will contest their first national title together at Attwell Park Speedway. The 52nd running of the national title has attracted 30 entries, including competitors from Queensland, Victoria and South Australia. The Pascoes, who hail from Willowbank, make up a large part of the interstate contingent and they are here to achieve one thing — take the Australian title back home with them. Matt, 46, is a veteran of the sport, having won four national titles and multiple State crowns in a decorated career behind the wheel. He is chasing a historic fifth title, that no driver in super sedans history has ever achieved. Zac, 21, and Brad, 19, are just emerging in the super sedan division but have already shown plenty of promise in their early racing days. Brad recently won all three major events held in Tasmania in January and Zac claimed his first feature race win in Esperance last weekend, as the western swing of the National Super Sedan Series started. Matt said it was a proud moment racing alongside his sons and believes the blue ribbon event in Albany will be one to remember. “Yeah it’s pretty special racing with the boys,” Matt said. “Early on they struggled but Brad went to Tassie and won all three big shows. “I won the Victorian title and me and Brad were running one-two there. “Last weekend in Esperance, Zac got his first win and we all finished 1-2-3 on the podium and that’s the first time we’ve done that together, so that was pretty cool.” Albany will host the title for the third time, having previously staged it in 2002 and 2017, and Matt said they will use the knowledge gained to try and get straight up the front come racing on Saturday night. “That’s our plan (to win) and make it number five,” he said. “There are a good 20 cars here that can win so it’s going to be tough. “We’ve been dialling in the car all year for this but you just need a bit of luck and if it’s meant to be, it is meant to be. “We definitely went away from here last time having learnt a few things and we come here hoping the track is still similar and we can use some of that info.” Matt said he expected stiff competition from WA father-son duo Gary and Dustin Higgs, defending national champ Trent Wilson plus heavy hitters Ash Bergmeier, Dave Gartner, Darren Kane and Mick Nicola. However Matt said his biggest rivals will be inside his own camp. “My toughest competition is my two boys,” he said. “They are going really well at the moment.” Official practice will be held on Friday night before the first night of heat races on Saturday and the remaining heats and finals on Sunday.
