Teams set to do battle in Great Southern Soccer Association finals this weekend

Polonia will play in the Great Southern Soccer Association women’s premier league final tomorrow night despite being comprehensively beaten in round 10 at the weekend by Phoenix.

Going into the final round of the shortened season, Polonia were on top of the standings, and despite losing they still finished in the top two and earned a grand final berth.

Phoenix netted four first-half goals before adding three in the remaining 45 minutes to notch a commanding 7-0 win over Polonia.

Chelsea Dekker and Jacy Mostert scored hat-tricks, while Rebekah De Bruin also found the back of the net in the win.

Denmark won by forfeit over Caledonians and moved to the top of the standings. They will face Polonia in the decider.

Reigning champions Polonia will face Rovers in Saturday’s men’s premier league final after both notched victories in the final round.

Two second-half goals helped Polonia finish 3-1 over Caledonians and ensure they finished three points clear of Rovers.

Nathan Griffiths, Kyle Taylor and Connor Bunce all netted goals while Kieran Loveridge scored for Caledonians.

Rovers and Phoenix played out a 1-1 draw in their final round men’s premier league match.

Scores were level at half-time after Brad Chapman found the back of the net for Rovers and Cameron Dekker scored for Phoenix.

Neither side were able to add another goal in the last 45 minutes.

In the women’s social competition Polonia won 3-0 over Bayswater and five first-half goals from Denmark guided them to a 6-0 win over Great Southern Grammar.

Bayswater narrowly defeated Caledonians 5-4 in men’s reserves while Port Albany won 2-0 over Polonia and Rovers defeated Royals 3-2.

Port Albany won 5-4 over Mt Barker after penalties in the women’s reserves competition, Rovers defeated 3-0 over Royals, Polonia won 2-0 against Phoenix and Denmark beat Caledonians 3-1.
