Investigations are underway following the confirmation of two deaths from a plane crash in Chambers Flat, Queensland on Monday morning.

Emergency services responded to a light plane crash in the roadside paddock of a rural property on Musch Road at 11.09am local time.

Queensland Police PolAir have confirmed the aircraft to be a 1979 Beech A36 Bonanza.

Flight tracking details show the plane departing Brisbane’s Archerfield Airport at 10.58am and records its last position veering off-course at 11.06am before the crash at 11.09am.

A grass fire ignited at the crash site and the plane was engulfed in flames when police arrived but fire services have since been able to regain control of the blaze.

Queensland Ambulance Services responded to the scene and remain on standby for the fire response unit, despite treating no patients.

Logan District Officer Chief Superintendent Mel Adams has spoken at a media conference regarding the crash, saying that authorities have limited information at this time.

“As to what happened whilst that aircraft was in the air, we have no information at this time,” Chief Superintendent Adams said.

The identities of the two people on board won’t be revealed until their next of kin have been notified.

“It was a very confronting scene,” Chief Superintendent Adams said.

“Our care at the moment is to our emergency service responders, and of course the family when we can make contact with them.”

Police have urged witnesses to come forward with witness testimony, video or dashcam footage of the incident in order to assist with The Australian Transport Safety Bureau’s investigation.

An aircraft registration and ABN search reveals the 1979 Beech A36 Bonanza has been registered to Telford Aviation since 2022 as a private charter plane based out of Archerfield Airport.

Archerfield Airport refused to comment.
