The jury in the Supreme Court trial of a Sydney cleaner accused of murdering her elderly client has been discharged.

Hanny Papanicolaou had pleaded not guilty to the murder of Marjorie Welsh, 92, inside the elderly woman’s Sydney home in early 2019.

The trial began with opening arguments on Monday and was due to last several weeks.

However, Justice Robertson Wright discharged the jury on Tuesday morning.

She died six weeks later as a result of her injuries.

Following the discharge of the jury, a new trial is set to begin on Thursday.
