A Derby man is in a serious but stable condition in hospital after he was the victim of a serious burglary and assault.

Police allege the man, aged in his 70’s, was at his home in Kunamarra Street when he answered a knock on his door around 10:30pm yesterday.

It was believed a male was standing at the door and forced his way inside, pushing the victim and striking him while demanding for his car keys.

It is understood the assault continued until the victim handed over his keys and the man left, stealing the victim’s white Toyota Hilux.

The victim was flown by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to Broome Hospital.

The vehicle was later located, abandoned in the Derby marsh area.

Derby Detectives are calling on the public to report any suspicious activity by contacting Crime Stoppers.
