Prepare to be transported to a world of nostalgia, with the launch of the Bunbury Beyblade Club.

More than 40 parents and children alike got involved to let it rip at the club’s Bunbury tournament at the weekend, as they battled it out to take home a trophy or a family food hamper.

The Beyblade Club Peel was the brainchild of 11-year-old Riley Hyland and has grown to a membership of 97 since its launch in October last year.

Club coordinator, and Riley’s mother, Jacqui Hyland said Riley started the club after he travelled to Perth for a competition and got knocked out in the first round.

“He was so upset but it inspired him to start his own club,” she said.

It provides a space for kids to have fun and if they’re not necessarily sporty, there’s still a club for them to make friends.

Inclusivity was the aim of the club, Ms Hyland said.

“It’s such a diverse club where your age or abilities doesn’t matter,” she said.

“We’re about creating a place for kids to have fun, but we’re also all about the families as well.”

Ms Hyland said it was important for there to be a place where kids could choose how interactive they wanted to be.

“If they’re shy, they can stick to themselves or they can branch out,” she said.

The community is about kids getting together with a common passion and spending some good family time away from technology.

Going forward, the Bunbury club hopes to meet fortnightly to battle it out.
