Staff and students at the South Bunbury Education Support Centre are grooving to a charitable tune in a bid to raise money for sick kids.

Ronald McDonald House Charities has called on the nation to get involved in Dance for Sick Kids, a week-long dance challenge taking place during National Families Week from May 15 to 21.

The South Bunbury Education Support Centre and students from South Bunbury Primary School have come together to take part in 30 minutes of dancing each day this week, with a goal to raise $1120 to support seriously ill and injured kids and their families.

The group has already raised more than $400 prior to their dance challenge kicking off.

Teacher Shelley Mildred said it was a no-brainer for the centre to join the cause for the first time this year with a number of its students that have chronic illnesses being required to travel for medical treatment.

“It’s a really good cause that’s really close to our hearts,” she said. “I had a child of my own that had special needs and I had a friend when I lived in the remote Pilbara whose son had leukaemia and I know that they had used Ronald McDonald house when he had extended periods of treatment in Perth.

“It’s such a great charity that works hard to support sick and chronically ill children and their families stay together during times of crisis.

Ronald McDonald House Charities has 18 houses across Australia accommodating more than 10,000 families each year. In WA almost 2000 families with seriously ill children have been supported with more than 18,000 nights of accommodation.
