Residents in part of Perth’s south west have been urged to stay alert, after a bushfire started just before 2pm.

The blaze has been downgraded in Wandi in the City of Kwinana with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services earlier warning there was a threat to lives and homes.

The fire is contained but still not under control.

People in the area bounded by Rowley Road to the north, De Haer Road to the east, De Haer Road across to Bodeman Road to the south, and Bodeman Road including Wandi Drive across Rowley Road to the west in parts of Wandi were still urged to stay alert and monitor their surroundings as conditions could change.

“Read through your bushfire plan. If you do not have a plan make one by visiting My Bushfire Plan. Have your emergency kit ready,” the DFES advice read.

“Watch for signs of a bushfire, especially smoke and flames.

“Close all doors and windows, and turn off evaporative air conditioners but keep water running through the system if possible.”

Motorists are asked to reduce speed and drive carefully.
