Busselton Jetty hosted a Tangaroa Blue WA Beach Clean Up and World Mental Health Day event last Saturday.

The event was co-ordinated by the Jetty Crew youths with the theme Looking After Our Ocean Health and Mental Health.

Forty volunteers collected 1166 pieces of litter, with 63 per cent of it plastic from cigarette butts, bottle lids, food packaging and straws.

Busselton Jetty tour guide and marine debris officer Jacquie Bullard said the event was more important than ever to connect with nature.

After the clean-up, all litter collected was sorted, counted and submitted to the Australian Marine Debris Database, with the information helping identify local litter issues and enable local solutions.
