Perth indie rockers Great Gable will bring their laid-back live show to the Capes this weekend with gigs at the Dunsborough Tavern on Friday and the River on Saturday.

It has been a whirlwind of local success since forming in 2015, the four-piece have been nominated for a WAM award for best live act, and sold out multiple national and international tours.

The Triple J kings originally met on the cricket pitch in Bunbury and recorded their debut album Tracing Faces with Matt Corby while Los Angeles music royalty Matthew Neighbour and Matthew Agoglia, who have worked with Gorillaz and Cold War Kids, mixed and mastered it.

Written in a cabin among the Karri forests and a Chestnut Farm in Byron Bay, Tracing Facesis an album that reflects the relationship the band have developed after years of writing and touring.

Drummer Callum Gray said he was super keen for an excuse to tour down south and hoped crowds would “froth and charge” at the shows.

“We have heaps of new songs from the new album which we’re excited to play,” he said. “It’s always nerve racking playing the new songs but its an honest representation of us and how we’ve matured musically so I hope that reflects in the sound.”

Gray said although the band was “pretty mellow” they got a kick out of playing popular up-tempo tracks Blur and All My Friends. “We will be playing our hearts out and hope people froth it. We’ve put a lot of effort into the set and the lights so I hope people charge it. “Playing a real upbeat song live, it just slams, (regarding All My Friends) we had no idea when we wrote it that it would be so popular on the airwaves.”

Stuck in Perth together over COVID-19 restrictions gave the band an opportunity to write “heaps of demos” with another release expected next year.

Tickets to Great Gable at the Dunsborough Tavern on Friday and the River on Saturday are available at Oztix for $22.50.
