Dunsborough Mitre 10 will open its doors once again on Saturday with a soft opening less than seven months after a structure fire almost destroyed the business.

At around 6am on March 26, an electrical fault near the cash registers caused a fire at the Dunsborough light industrial area site, with smoke causing around $500,000 worth of damage.

In the past six months owner Trent Wilson, his family and staff, have worked tirelessly to prepare the store for reopening which boasts a new layout, new items and a brighter fit-out.

“It was a pretty difficult pill to swallow, we were trading very well at the beginning of COVID-19, and to lose the whole business amidst that was heartbreaking,” Mr Wilson said.

“The hard work has paid off, the silver lining was we were able to redevelop the store into a better, brighter, more impressive offering and the people in town will be amazed by the total change with a bigger stock range and better layout.”

Mr Wilson said there would be a grand opening on December 5 with pony rides, bouncy castles and prizes available.

“The most important part right now is just to get open and trading again. We get asked in town all the time about when we’re opening so were excited to welcome everyone back.”

A sausage sizzle will be held on Saturday for anyone who would like to wish the family and staff well.

Mitre 10 Dunsborough will reopen on Saturday with normal trading hours 8am-4pm.
