Racquets in salute as clubs reopen

Tennis clubs in the Capes have been given the green light to reopen with the move to phase 3 of the WA Government’s easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

On June 6, clubhouses will reopen to an increased number of patrons, with change rooms also available for use.

Phase 2 easing of the rules allowed the return of court hire, group coaching and intra-club competition.

Clubs will continue to be governed by the latest COVID-19 guidelines and regulations.

Dunsborough Tennis Club treasurer Michael Howes said the club was excited to reopen after months of quiet clubrooms.

“We will open up and we welcome visitors to book courts online and use the clubrooms for functions,” he said.

“The last few months have been tough but now things are relaxing a little bit we’re getting back to play and enjoying having all the courts full.”

Tennis West chief executive Michael Robertssaid he was confident in the behind-the-scenes work which had prioritised communication to clubs ensuring they are informed about the latest government requirements and expectations.

“The very nature of tennis allows players to participate safely with the added benefit of social distancing measures a unique feature of our game,” he said.

Guidelines on safe play have been developed to assist clubs in a safe return to the game.
