GeoCatch has launched its 9 Lives short animated video to highlight the dangers posed to roaming cats.

The video uses humour to depict the many ways roaming cats can become injured, and the impact they can have on local wildlife.

GeoCatch project officer Nicole Lincoln said injuries to roaming cats were common because of cat fights, road accidents and other causes.

“While roaming cats are often a challenging issue in our neighbourhoods, we have created a fun and engaging video to promote a new trend in responsible cat ownership,” she said.

“Contrary to popular belief, all cats’ needs can be met inside an enclosed area; ensuring the cats are safe and happy.”

Local artists, from Grrinninbear Designs and MaxFoo, developed the illustrations for the video, which now has almost 5000 views on social media.

The video is part of the Pets Away, Possums Playcampaign, which encourages residents to keep pets inside at night at a minimum, so possums feel safe to forage, feed and thrive.

Cat owners are encouraged to keep their cats contained day and night because of the impact they have on wildlife, such as birds and reptiles, which are active during the day. GeoCatch continues to work with local vets, pet businesses and organisations to build a suite of resources to support cat owners make the transition to keeping their cats safe indoors or in cat enclo-4sures.
