Cars recalled as defects could ‘increase the risk of injury or death’

Several cars have been recalled over concerns defects could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants. The Isuzu D-Max & MU-X 2020-2024 is one of three models to be recalled, as the engine control module (ECM) could incorrectly reduce engine speed, possibly leading to the engine stalling and causing a loss of motive power due to a software issue. “A loss of motive power whilst driving could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users,” the recall alert states. Another Isuzu model has also been recalled, as the fuel hose may have been incorrectly installed in the Isuzu D-Max 2020-2023. The ECM software can be inspected and updated free of charge, with Isuzu set to contact affected consumers in writing. The fuel hose may come into contact with the engine level gauge bracket and could result in premature wear. “If this occurs, fuel may leak in the presence of an external ignition source resulting in a vehicle fire.” the recall alert states. “A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders and/or damage to property.” Isuzu will contact owners in writing to encourage them to schedule an appointment to have the fuel hose inspected and replaced for free. The Hino 500 Series 2018-2024 has also been recalled over concerns the wiring could become damaged and cause a short circuit, which could result in a vehicle fire. This is as a result of a manufacturing defect, where the chassis wiring harness may come into contact with the engine side cover, engine side cover bracket or cabin arch. Replacement parts reportedly won’t be available until late August. “When parts are available, HMSA will write to vehicle owners by priority mail inviting them to make an appointment with their nearest Hino dealer to have the vehicle inspected and rectified, free of charge,” the alert states.
