LATEST COVID-19 DEVELOPMENTS

* Victorian Premier Dan Andrews has declared lockdowns a thing of the past after Melbourne's 77-day lockdown, its sixth during the pandemic, came to an end.

* Victoria is scrapping quarantine for fully vaccinated overseas travellers from November 1, bringing the state into line with NSW.

* Tasmania will reopen its borders on December 15 to people who are fully vaccinated against coronavirus.

* Queensland has recorded no local cases of COVID-19 two days after a man tested positive on the Gold Coast, but a truck driver has become infected after visiting venues in Brisbane earlier this week.

* Canberra retail shops are preparing to open their doors to customers for the first weekend of trade since the territory's lockdown started in mid-August.

* Patchy vaccination rates across Adelaide remain a concern but health officials are banking on a walk-in weekend across the city's clinics to boost numbers. The SA government announced two new vaccination centres will open in coming weeks as the state closes in on 80 per cent of the eligible population having received their first dose.

* Parents have been urged to get their kids vaccinated and to be on alert for COVID-19 symptoms ahead of a full return to school in NSW.

* Scientists are monitoring a delta-related variant - known as AY.4.2. - to see if it might spread more easily or be more deadly than previous versions of the coronavirus.

AUSTRALIAN VACCINATION NUMBERS

* There have been 33,770,321 doses administered in the national COVID-19 vaccination rollout up to midnight on Thursday, including 280,836 in the previous 24 hours.

* Of the total, 19,793,707 have been administered by the Commonwealth (an increase of 183,302 in the previous 24 hours).

* 18,698,593 have been issued in primary care (+179,753) and 1,095,114 in aged and disability facilities (+3549).

* 13,976,614 have been administered by the states and territories, including 97,534 in the previous 24 hours.

AUSTRALIAN CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Australia reported 2547 local cases on Friday: 2189 in Victoria, 345 in NSW, and 13 in the ACT.

* There were five overseas-acquired infections in Queensland.

* The national death toll is 1611: Victoria 1021 (+16), NSW 546 (+5), Tasmania 13, ACT 9, WA 9, Queensland 7 and SA 4. Two Queensland residents who died in NSW have been included in the official tolls of both states.

GLOBAL CORONAVIRUS NUMBERS:

* Cases: at least 242,475,200

* Deaths: at least 4,929,500

* Vaccine doses administered: at least 6,734,421,300
