“There was bleeding on the brain, he had to go into surgery (Friday night) to have the pressure released,” she told 9 News.

Mr Maffina, who is father to a three-year-old boy, was due to be married next week. His wedding has now been postponed as he recovers.

“He’s a fighter, he’s got everything to fight for. He’s got a family, he’s about to get married,” Ms Fuller said.

She implored anyone with information on her brother’s attack to contact police.

“We just need this person caught. He shouldn’t be out there still,” she said.

Police interviewed Mr Maffina on Saturday night soon after he awoke from his coma.
