Mark McGowan car crash incident: Woman who crashed outside Premier’s house an anti-vaxxer

Premier Mark McGowan has claimed the woman who crashed her car into a pole outside his home was an anti-vaxxer, describing the act as “beyond the pale”. Police will allege the Rockingham woman was drink driving when she crashed her car on Tuesday evening, but there was no threat to the safety of the Premier or his family. The 45-year-old woman was taken to the Rockingham General Hospital for assessment and later charged with one count of exceeding 0.05g alcohol per 100ml of blood. Mr McGowan was on his way home from a reception at Government House, which was rewarding officers who rescued Cleo Smith, at the time of the crash but his family was at home. Mr McGowan confirmed on Wednesday that the driver was an anti-vaxxer. “The current anti-vaxxer behaviour is a bit out of control. You know, anti-vaxxers driving cars into power poles outside my house is a bit beyond the pale,” he told a CEDA event. Mr McGowan encouraged people protesting against the vaccine mandate to “think about what they’re doing and treat people with respect, in particular journalists and the media”. “I’ve got an important job to do and the job is to get people vaccinated,” he said. “This sort of conduct is not going to change anything that we do. We’re going to continue to get people vaccinated. That is the pathway out of the pandemic. “When it’s all over, when the vast majority of people, over 90 per cent, are vaccinated by February of next year, I’m sure that a lot of the heat has come out of this.” The woman is due to appear in Rockingham Magistrates Court on December 21. Investigation into circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing. The incident comes just 10 days after Zayvier Rose and Max Czirr allegedly phoned Mr McGowan and threatened to “behead” him and his children. The men, aged 18 and 20, from Canning Vale and Harrisdale, have each been charged with one count of acts creating false apprehension as to the existence of threats or danger. Last month, Mr McGowan was forced to close his Rockingham electorate office after he and his staff received death threats from anti-vaxxer extremists. In October, Perth man Jamon Hartzer, 42, was charged over online threats to kill Mr McGowan and other political leaders.
