Police have charged a teenager in connection with the theft of a koala from Adventure World last weekend.

Murdoch Police had charged a 17-year-old boy from Parkwood after the alleged theft of the 15-year-old koala, named Orana last Sunday.

A desperate search was launched after the animal disappeared on a night when the amusement park was open until 11pm as part of a special event.

The alleged brazen theft was reportedly filmed and posted on Snapchat.

Orana was found in the branches of a tree just before 5pm on Sunday in the Bibra Lake area and, according to Adventure World, has a clean bill of health.

“We’d like to send out a huge thanks to everyone who gave up their time to join the search,” a statement on the water park’s Facebook page read.

The boy will face the Fremantle Children’s Court on February 4, charged with animal cruelty causing an animal unnecessary harm and possession of stolen or unlawfully obtained property.

Inquiries into the theft are ongoing.

Anyone with information into the theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
