A six-year-old girl who suffered many injuries including a broken arm at the hands of her father says he wanted to make her "a nobody", a court has heard.

The child's 32-year-old father, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his children, has been jailed for seven years for torturing the young girl over seven months from May 2018.

He denied the accusations, but his version wasn't accepted by a Brisbane District Court jury.

Instead jurors found him guilty of torture, cruelty, common assault, grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning bodily harm after a six-day trial earlier this year.

The child had "suffered many injuries" and needed two serious operations in relation to one offence, Judge Julie Dick said in sentencing the man on Wednesday.

"This case was about more than momentary losses of control," she added.

"At the end day ... you tortured a six to seven-year-old girl, your own daughter."

The little girl said her father "wanted to make me a nobody", Judge Dick said.

The court heard she "appeared to have lost interest in herself as a result of being degraded and told she was nothing".

Judge Dick said the man denied doing any of the alleged acts against the child, suggesting she or her sister were responsible for injuries.

His only explanation was for her fractured arm, which he claimed occurred during a fall at school.

The man, from the Redlands, southeast of Brisbane, claimed he was in a dysfunctional relationship with a woman - not the child's mother - who was controlling, Judge Dick said in sentencing the man.

"Her evidence was that it was you who was controlling of her (and) I believed her," Judge Dick told the man.

It appeared the offending was escalating.

"By the time there was an intervention (the girl) was in a truly parlous state," Judge Dick said.

"You have shown no remorse."

But she accepted he had an "appalling childhood" and been diagnosed with depression and anxiety at the age of 15. The family was also under significant pressure at the time.

Judge Dick sentenced the man to seven years behind bars for torture.

He will be eligible for parole in September 2024, taking into account the time he has already spent in custody.
